Jura limestone was formed 140–220 million years ago in the tropical lagoons of the Jura Sea and contains numerous fossils that document its long formation process. Quarried in the Jura region in the Altmühltal (Bavaria), it is one of the largest natural stone reserves in the world. The stone, also known as Jura marble or Treuchtlingen marble, was already used as a building material in the Roman Empire, as evidenced by numerous historical buildings. The dense limestone is quarried in various layers, which are selected for different uses such as flooring, facades, or garden and landscape construction products based on their specific properties.
